Expert reveals the perfect wedding skincare timeline to ensure glowing skin for your big day (2024)

In the quest for perfect skin, timing is everything. There is no quick fix solution, and combating things like acne, the signs of ageing, dullness and scarring can take weeks and months to improve. This is totally normal, and while some treatments can offer results in mere hours, looking after your skin at home is a long-term labour of love.

Whether it’s your wedding or another event coming up, or you want to prepare for a summer holiday, never leave your skin prep to the last minute. Susan Fox, owner of Eden Beauty Group with over 30 years experience in the beauty business, explains that there are a few things to consider when it comes to skin care timelines.

Clients who have an event or occasion coming up always ask when they should start prepping their skin and the answer is immediately. The longer we have the better the outcome. Obviously some events are bigger than others so lets start with the big one....your wedding! Getting married is one of the most exciting and stressful times of your life and the key to a glowing, happy, relaxed bride is in the prep. I always recommend to brides that they start prepping their skin 12 months before the wedding.

One year from the wedding

One year before the wedding, book a consultation with a skin therapist and discuss your main concerns and issues. A good therapist will put a plan together for you based on available time and budget and comprising treatments and home care products. Issues like pigmentation or scarring will definitely need this time frame to address. A year out you are focusing on skin health and removing blemishes so treatments like micro needling or IPL that address structure and the health of the skin are a great place to start. The Casmara microneedling treatment introduces active serums into the skin that target specific concerns and introduce active ingredients deep into the skin. Microneedling requires a course of treatments at 3 week to monthly intervals.

Six months from the wedding

At this stage, I would suggest some peels to improve texture and ensure your skin is soft and smooth for your big day. I particularly like the Afa range of peels we offer in the clinic to triple the moisture levels in your skin while brightening and tackling pigmentation.

Three months from the wedding

Three months out I would recommend embarking on a monthly facial to ensure stress breakouts are kept to a minimum. You can work with a skincare professional to create a bespoke facial experience that will address any concerns you may have in the lead up to the big day. From this point on, do not introduce new products in case you have an adverse reaction. The last thing a bride needs is a breakout. Regular treatments will help to alleviate this, but I always warn my clients that it is essential to avoid introducing new products at this stage. Stress levels are high so breakouts are more likely, stress also causes sensitivity so in the weeks before your wedding familiarity is your friend. If you do get a break out DO NOT pick, go straight to a skin specialist as broken skin is almost impossible to cover with makeup so leave any extractions to the experts.

One month before the wedding

One month out a microdermabrasion treatment would be amazing to exfoliate gently and eliminate any rough skin. Your skin feels like silk after the treatment and make up sits much more evenly and lasts longer on a smooth, sebum free skin.

One week before the wedding

The week before the wedding a hydrating relaxing facial will ensure you are mentally and physically ready for your big day. I love the Skin Sensation facial from Casmara. It reduces redness, is extremely hydrating and finishes with a 24kt gold mask to tighten skin and leave you glowing...it is the ultimate bridal facial.

At home skincare

Bridal home care should include a couple of key products used consistently and what you do 365 days a year at home is more important than the occasional treatment. Cleanse morning and evening - I love the BP Dermaceuticals glow cleanser - and try some acids to address your skin concerns. Acids are great for targeting pigmentation, reducing scarring and softening fine lines. The Natural Peeling Tri Active from Casmara is a real hero product of mine. Over time it will reduce marking and pigmentation and improve skin texture. It can be used on the face and body to target any spots on the back or chest that may be visible in your wedding dress that you want to eliminate. This one should be on everyone's bathroom shelf.
