How much does U-Haul hold on a credit card? ›

No deposit is required if paying by major credit card or debit card with a major credit card logo. However, if paying by cash, Customer is responsible for the following deposits at the time of rental: In-Town^© Rental of a U-Haul Vehicle: $100.00 or estimated rental charges, whichever is greater.

Why is U-Haul giving me more days in my one-way rental than I need? Safety is our number one concern. Our goal is to provide our one-way customers with ample time to complete their move safely.

You will be asked to sign a promissory note. This is essentially a legal document that allows them to go after you for the money but allows you to leave without actually paying for your rental. Until you satisfied the promisory note amount, You will be unable to rent from U-Haul nor anybody associated with you.

If you intend to seek Arbitration, Section 7(b)(i) of the U-Haul Arbitration Agreement requires you first send to U-Haul, either by certified mail or email, a written notice of Dispute (“Notice”), a copy of which can be found by selecting the "Forms" link at uhaul.com/arbitration.

Can I use a debit card to reserve or rent U-Haul equipment? Yes, debit cards with a Visa or Mastercard logo can be used to rent U-Haul equipment.

Our extended days/miles rental option allows you to reserve the 8' Pickup truck or cargo van up to 90 days. If you're a small business owner who needs to make use of this option more frequently, consider signing up for a corporate account to receive the lowest rates.

Each trip includes a mileage allotment with fees that are incurred if exceeded. In-town or local moves are priced based on a flat rate and mileage. You must consider both factors when choosing which size moving truck to rent. If you make many trips, your cost will be higher than limiting your move to one or two trips.

If you are using u-haul, you will have to let them know ahead of time that you are dropping off at another location. You can book a reservation - it's called a one way and is much more expensive than dropping it of at the pick up location so you may want to check your options.

The debt owed on a promissory note either can be paid off, or the noteholder can forgive the debt even if it has not been fully paid. In either case, a release of promissory note needs to be signed by the noteholder.

Credit and Debit Card Rules

Generally, at the time of a U.S. corporate-operated location rental, we'll require a credit card hold of total estimated rental charges plus 25% or $200, whichever is greater.

A credit card hold isn't a charge. It's a temporary hold or block on a certain amount of your credit limit. In some cases, the hold may be larger than the final transaction amount. But you'll only see the final transaction amount on your statement after the hold is removed.

The cost to rent a moving truck for one-way moves depends on the truck size, pickup location, destination, and move date. U-Haul prices often work out to about $0.90–$1.00 per mile, but you might pay more in cities with a higher cost of living. You may also pay a higher rate for Friday and Saturday rentals.
